I like the idea of doing it all with the LMB (and then you can use the RMB for giving other commands on whatever). I agree with that right-clicks should be for unusual actions, and left clicks should be for the standard/default action. Maybe RTS players would be happier with the current design decision.Īfter the user and I discussed the interaction, I have come up with another way to interact with units, which they seemed satisfied with -īut that's just the same as your original clicking-and-dragging approach, except that it requires the right mouse button - I don't really see how that's better. The person I shown this to is not interested in gaming, so does not have experience of moving units in an RTS game. What I liked most about this design was the use of just the left click. Until now I was entirely satisfied with my decision. The unit rotates towards this location once they have reached their destination. An arrow appears near the halo, pointing in the direction that the unit will look.Īfter step 4, the unit is deselected and will not be affected by clicking of the mouse. Release the left mouse button to tell the unit which way to rotate towards. With the left mouse button still pressed down, move the cursor into a direction where you want unit to look at.Ĥ. Move the cursor to the location that you want unit to move to and then press the left mouse button down (but not up), at this point, a second halo will appear at the location that the unit will move towards.ģ.
